Call of Duty 3 screenshot comparison Wii vs. Xbox 360

Filed under: Video Games — icruise @ 6:17 pm

Yes, this is an unfair fight, but this kind of comparison is rather eye-opening. Here are screenshots from similar places in the Call of Duty 3 on both the Xbox 360 and the Wii (thanks, Gamespot). I didn’t include the PS3 since it should be about identical to the Xbox 360. The difference is startling. These aren’t the exact same places in the game, but I’ve chosen shots that seem similar to one another in terms of their content.

I’m not doing this to bash the Wii (I like a lot about it and I think the games made specifically for the system should be good) but cross-platform games like Call of Duty 3 really do seem to suffer on the Wii. (Pictures after the jump.)

  1. Xbox 360 has better Graphics and better resolution. Wii looks like the old need for speed games on PS. Pixeled and everything.

  2. Ouch. It’s enough to make you think that Nintendo ought to discourage ports of games on the competing platform in favor of original content.

  3. Is the gameplay the same – or do the better graphics make for better gameplay?

I suppose if gameplay or features are the same then the extra graphics are just better eye candy…

  4. has anyone noticed that all the 360 screens arnt actually gameplay footage! there OFFICIAL screens, there used for things like advertising. and that all the wii photos are just cutout from the (wii) trailer. by the way, 360 definetly has better graphics, but these screens dont dignify that. (ps. im not a nintendo fanboy. I own an xbox 360).

  5. First of all the whole “pixeled” problem makes no difference unless you’re on an HD tv anyway, and even then if the pictures above arent game footage i wouldn’t put it past them to fix the antialiasing to be better than what it can do live anyway. Furthermore arguably bad graphics dont improve gameplay, but pointing at the screen with your hand instead of using a joystick Just Might….

  7. those wii shots are edited i have played the game it looks much better than that! btw i own a wii and have a friend who owns a 360 the wii is the same definition as far as pixilation as watching normal tv (both are 480i) and the wii can up to 480p

  8. it’s known that 360 has higher resolution; so there really is no argument here. It’s just nice for Wii owners to play COD3😛

  9. The Wii is not about trying to beat the other 2 systems with graphics. It offers something totaly new to game play which I think rocks. The XBOX does look great in my books, but its the same old thing.

  10. I own a Wii and love 360 but there is no place to compare graphics, nintendo did not go for graphics they went for gamplay away from the same thing that has been done for years.

  11. A guy i work with has a 360 and is constantly telling me how everything looks “awesome”. I borrowed it and although it looks great i enjoy the wii much better due to the unique controls. They`re both the same game on different systems. If you`re after eye candy then get a 360. If you wanna have fun and get some laughs while playing then a wii is easily the way to go. After all, shouldn`t playing a game be fun and not frustrating?

  12. Well…ok I admit the Xbox 360 has better graphics but to me as I’m not that big of a gamer anymore I prefer the Wii you know, just to have fun but if someone asked me which was better, I’d say 360, BIG!

  13. There’s absoultely no doubt that the 360 has MUCH better graphics, but you’re also paying for that better quality… so obviously it would be better.
